Carbon Steel
Carbon steel is a common type of steel that is an alloy of iron and
carbon. It has a higher carbon content, lower melting point and greater durability compared to
stainless steel. Carbon steel is the most widely used engineering and construction material for
industrial applications on a large scale, including marine structures, power plants,
transportation, chemical processing and petroleum production and refining. The materials could
be polished and can have different finishes. The dimensions of the fittings vary according to
the standards and the pipe nominal sizes as well. Low carbon steels are more common than high
carbon because of (1) lower production costs, (2) greater ductility, and (3) ease of use in
manufacturing. Low carbon steels tend to deform under stress instead of breaking, and that
ductility makes low carbon steels easy to machine and weld.
